Okay, I’ll admit it. I couldn’t write yesterday because I was too excited for the Fuel the Fire conference! :)
But now I will…
Today was wonderful! I was so proud of everyone that put so much work into making this the best conference so far! This year we promoted the conference in many different and unique ways.
- we created a new logo
- we went to each IOC and IWC and explained the basics of the conference, so no freshmen (unless they were sick) would be able to say they didn’t know about the conference.
- we made the funny promo video
- we gave candy to freshmen who registered
- we ordered BUZZ TEAM shirt, which look awesome by the way :)
- we had a neat poster design designed by Buzz Team member Laura Dahlstrom aka LD
Basically, it was great! Students loved learning new things, meeting alumni, and applying their knowledge to their lives!

I cannot believe the Fuel the Fire conference is less than 2 days away! Tonight we were supposed to have a “Stuffing Party,” where folders would be stuffed with schedules, name tags, the program books, etc. BUT…the Parke Leadership Student Staff and a few members of the Buzz Team worked very hard and diligently to get them done. I took a break to go eat at 5:20 pm and when I returned at 6:05 pm to start the party, the party was already over.
I was a little disappointed to not get to take part in such an epic event, but I was more proud of the fact that students had worked hard to get a nearly impossible task completed before I even could help. Instead of having to recruit people walking past, we got to send people away. This is something, I don’t traditionally like to do. :) But in this case, it was exciting!
I estimated I spend 18 hours (so far) working on Fuel the Fire materials! The Conference is definitely this weekend!
The Fuel the Fire conference is about 53 hours away and 7 minutes. I am so excited to see all of the hard work pay off. My goal is not for the conference to go perfectly, because that is unrealistic. But instead my goal is for the conference to be a day of learning, understanding, questioning, and application. If problems do arise, we will handle them and things will be fine.

I am a very goal oriented person. I love making check-lists and crossing things off. In fact, I’m a person who will add a job to her checklist, just to get it crossed off. I am efficient and hard-working. One week ago, I received a checklist that was enormous! I had made my own checklist for Fuel the Fire, which was getting smaller and smaller. However, when I got this list my eyes got very wide and I was overwhelmed!
Fortunately, I am not alone. This Master Fuel the Fire To Do list is shared by my helpers and each one has been instrumental in helping me stay sane. We each have our own tasks on the checklist, to help the conference be a success. Some tasks require more thinking, others require more typing, some require updating, and all require time. I’ve been so honored to get to work with such wonderful people who want to make this conference the best one so far!
I’m proud to announce the checklist is getting smaller and smaller. Before we know it, Saturday will be here and the 2013 Fuel the Fire event will be over. But for now, enjoy the Final Countdown (4 days!) and get yourself excited for the BEST CONFERENCE YET. :)

The preparations for the Fuel the Fire Conference are well underway! The Buzz Team and I are hard at work finishing the last minute details! Every single second will count in this exciting FINAL COUNTDOWN! Our numbers are growing and so is the excitement!
There is only one thing that is not perfect yet- we’re still in need of volunteers! This is a great opportunity to help our leadership conference. Plus, an added bonus is that your conference fee waived! Talk about good news or what?!
Specifically we are looking for people to host sessions in both the morning and afternoon. This would include
- Show up a few minutes early to your room
- Help the presenter pass out any handouts
- Passing out and collect the reflection sheets at the end
Breakfast/Lunch Greeter – Greet participants (and alums) in the breakfast/lunch lines and ensure that they have name tag
The last option is my personal fav. This allows you to come to the “STUFFING PARTY,” Thursday Jan. 17, 2013 from 6 pm – 10 pm. Don’t feel like you have to come the whole time. In fact, the earlier you come and the more you help, the more likely we are to get done early. My personal goal is to have it all done by 8 p.m. but we will need YOUR help!
My mom always says “Many hands make light work.” We will be putting together schedules, instructions, and LeadNow info for the people who are registered for Fuel the Fire. Invite your friends too! What if we got done by 7:30? Mind blown!

This year we have a goal of having 270 students register for the Fuel the Fire Conference! When the Buzz Team and I made this goal, we knew it was a lofty one. We believe it is amazing to already have so many people registered! We are excited for the opportunities ahead! If you have a friend who isn’t going to the conference, ask him or her why not. Encourage others to come! It’d be great to be able to fill the Centrum with students next Saturday!
It’s crazy that in one week at this time Fuel the Fire will be over!
Tip of the Day
Bring an appetite! I suggest not eating for several days in order to get ready for the good food at the conference! Catering by Concordia will provide both breakfast and lunch aka it will be amazing! Get ready for some tasty food, but even tastier sessions, networking time, and learning in a different way! I can’t wait and I hope you feel the same!
